Concrete steps b&q are a smart addition to any property and provide a safe way to navigate a steep slope. They can also be used to breathe new life into an existing stairway through renovation. Choosing the right combination of tread and riser is essential to make attractive, functional and safe steps. To work out the best combination, refer to a step building guide.
Poured concrete is more expensive than pre-fabricated versions, but it allows for greater customization and design flexibility. A full set of poured concrete steps costs $1,200 to $2,500 including materials and labor.
Enhancing Safety: Repairing Concrete Steps with B&Q Materials
A more budget-friendly option is to lay a series of prefabricated steps, with each unit costing $300 to $500. This is less than half the price of a traditional poured set and still offers the benefit of faster installation, easier repairs and cheaper delivery options.
Before laying the first riser, dig a trench about 125mm deep for the footing and drive in pegs levelled with a spirit level. Build up the footing using a mix of four parts sharp sand to one part cement, and lay the first riser. Then use a long spirit level or straightedge to check that the first riser is horizontal and in line with the bottom of the guide peg. Continue to build the rest of the stairs, being careful not to cut the treads too short. Leave the mortar to dry before you use it. Adding an optional coating to your steps increases visual appeal and improves durability, but will add another $100 to $500 to the overall cost.
